I travel a lot – full time
In 2014, I moved to the US and started travelling full time with my wife, 2 kids and our dog. Right now, we explore North America in our self-converted van.

Hiking, running and bikepacking

Our tiny off-grid living capsule
We were lucky and got one of the few vans before the pandemic messed up all supply chains. We bought a regular crew van and I fitted it out myself.
The goal was to build a little survival capsule that is suited for boondocking all the time with enough space for lots of toys, gear and comforts.

Always connected!
This is my never ending quest to find usable internet wherever I choose to go and work. Ehm and Netflix, that’s kinda important too. Usually, we stay somewhere wild in the boonies, which makes for epic camp spots, but hard to be connected. These things ensure us to be connected:
| Starlink: | Yes, we rock Dishy McFlatface on top of the van. Satellite internet is an absolute game changer, still a little bit cumbersome for travelling, but the only way to be connected in remote places. |
| Cell Data Hotspots: | We use several hotspots from ATT & Verizon to connect to nearby 5G/LTE/4G cell towers. On top of the van, we installed a MiMo antenna for better reception. In the past, we’ve found a truckload of awesome camp spots without any cell towers nearby – before Starlink, we had to leave those spots on our quest to find usable internet |
Software development and the right tools for the job
Besides crafting frontends and layouts, I am trained to work on the whole enchilada – I feel right at home on the server side.

I am mostly a frontend developer working fully remote in my mobile home office. I am working on several projects, including UI/UX/API development. Tools of the trade:

The best travel dog one can think of. Seriously, he’s the goodest boy, always watching out for his hoomans. Throw his frisbee and he’ll love you forever!
Food! I like food!
I eat a lot of stuff to fuel an active lifestyle. I try to pay attention to nutrition, metabolic health and quality food.

I experiment with nutrition to figure out what my body needs and what feels good. As a result, I fast every full moon, do some intuitive fasting here and there and eliminated wheat and other inflammatory foods from my diet.
Skateboarding
I’ll spare you my oldschool shaky fisheye videos from the early 2000. I started skateboarding when I was 14 and shredded obsessively for some years.
Now I’m a grown ass human and still find inner peace when I grab my board. Since I’m in nature most of the time, I started skateboarding in the wild. Mother nature builds some great features! Favourite spot: dry lake bed close to Vegas.
Favourite Skater: Rodney Mullen. Dude, he’s just great. Watched his THPS2 video a million times when I was a kid, now my kids play the same game on Switch.
Most of the time, I do wear clothes
Since you’re going through my stuff anyways, here’s what you find:
- Hat that keeps my hair under control
- Plain shirts, some national park memorabilia or printed with my stuff
- Do it all shorts, always ready to hike, swim, run, bike, relax, sleep …
- Barefoot in camp, otherwise Bedrock sandals, Altra trail runners for more technical trails, skate shoes when on a skateboard
- Warm hat that keeps my head warm and hair under control
- Jacket and an alpaca hoodie underneath
- If I absolutely cannot wear shorts, I have to put on pants
- Winter sneakers with an extra wide toe box
Chop Wood!
Since we like it cozy, but have a track record of getting snowed in all the time, we need a reliable heat source.
Heck yeah, I like to chop wood – and yes, there is a tiny wood stove in the van, so we can camp in conditions like this:
I love books
Since the van is small enough without a private library, I got a Kobo Ebook reader. It goes everywhere I go.
I read all kinds of books, whatever I find interesting at the time. Classics, biographies, non fiction, science fiction, fantasy, dystopia or post apocalyptic.

G’day, I’m Chaos
Chaos does not mean total disorder. Chaos means a multiplicity of possibilities. Chaos is from the ancient Greek words that means a thing that is birthed from the void. And it was about that which is possible, not about disorder.
Chaos is my nickname.
Usually, my tools are scattered and supplies are distributed evenly, creating an environment of creative chaos. That’s just how I work, that’s how I create.
In my opinion, chaos is essential to creativity and unconventional ideas. One needs to make mistakes easily in order to learn and improve. Order on the other hand creates an efficient box with no space to roam, no space to step out of the line.
Cleverly combining pieces of information in an unusual way is what sets us apart from machines. As Robert Ford once said: “Evolution forged the entirety of sentient life on this planet using only one tool: the mistake.” And chaos supercharges the environment for those inevitable good mistakes to happen.
